Parking in the CityMackay Regional Council provides both on-street and off-street car parking for city centre patrons. On-street car parking is free in the City Centre and is mainly intended for short-term use by city shoppers. On-street bays are conveniently located adjacent to shops and services but are time limited to ensure vehicle turn-over. Penalties will be incurred for overstaying the prescribed time.
In addition to on-street parking bays, longer stays, and all-day parking is catered for by council’s off-street car parks. Council provides five off-street car parks. Charges apply Monday to Friday. Parking is free on the weekend in all council off-street car parks.
Free City Centre ParkingFree parking is now available in the City Centre at two convenient locations, making visits even more convenient for shoppers and workers.
The free off-street car parks are available on Brisbane Street (off Bluewater Quay, River Street) and at the Sydney Street car park (opposite Sydney Street markets).
City Centre Taskforce Chair and Tourism and Economic Development portfolio councillor Greg Martin said the free off-street parking was among a number of council initiatives aimed at encouraging residents to shop, dine and explore the City Centre.
With this change, council will be contacting holders of current pre-paid parking permits that use these car parks, and refunding any unused portion of their permit.
"Council is keen to support residents and businesses to help boost trade during the City Centre Revitalisation Project," Cr Martin said.
"Access to City Centre businesses will not be affected by the works so we encourage everyone to shop local and support our local eateries, service and retail stores."
A number of exciting marketing activities are set to roll-out in the coming months with the introduction of Staff Loyalty and City Centre Rewards Cards.
Cr Martin encouraged residents to like the new Mackay City Centre Facebook page to stay up to date with the latest deals and incentives from local businesses.
